Ukrainian scientists achieving world-class results in such fields as mathematics, physics, computer sciences, biology, electric welding, new materials and space exploration.

The Academy has "state-agency" status, but is self-governing in decision making regarding its scientific direction. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is responsible for over 90% of all inventions and discoveries made in Ukraine.
The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, established in 1918, is the oldest and largest of the republican academies that existed within the former Soviet Union. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has 3 divisions and 14 departments within them, 6 regional science centers, 173 research institutions, with 43,613 employees including 16,813 researchers; among them, 2,493 with degree of Doctor of Science and 7,996 with Ph.D. degree.
Ukraine's large scientific and technological capital and impressive technology resources are based on the country's education system that comprises approximately 966 institutions of higher learning. About 87% of high school graduates go onto higher education. This amounts to 1.3 million students who study at 347 universities. According to UNESCO, Ukraine has more students per 10,000 people (249) than Japan (240) or Great Britain (220). Approximately 7,000 students graduate from Ukraine's institutes and universities annually in disciplines that enable them to become software professionals.
